But what is Tarkashi?
Tarkashi is one of Pakistan’s most intricate heritage needlework techniques. Unlike surface embroidery, it is created by carefully withdrawing selected threads from the fabric and then meticulously regrouping and securing the remaining threads with fine hand stitches. The result is a delicate, lace-like pattern woven directly into the fabric itself, creating beautiful geometric and floral motifs through precision and patience rather than embellishment.
